Setting up Private DNS is not a tough job if you are using WHM. All you need is a Dedicated Server or VPS and 2 public ip addresses.

Steps

Most important: You need to first go to your domain registrar and add 2 host with the ip address you have in your server.
Eg. Lets think you own hostname678.com, login to the domain registrar and go to the DNS tools and click add host/DNS. Then type”ns1″ in Host and type the first ip address of your server. “ns2” for second host and the second ip address. You need to wait for 4-12 hours for the host names to start working depending on the registrar.

1. Under “Main >> Networking Setup >> Change Hostname” type a fully qualified hostname under Change Hostname, than click “Change”

Eg. 1st.hostname6.com

2. Under “Main >> Server Configuration >> Basic cPanel & WHM Setup” in “Nameservers” section, type a desired name for the 2 Name servers in Nameserver 1 & Nameserver 2 textbox. Then click “Assign Nameserver IP” and “Add an A Entry for this Nameserver” (confirm if required)

Eg. ns1.hostname678.com, ns2.hostname678.com

Note: Nameserver 3 & Nameserver 4 are optional

3. Under “Main >> Networking Setup >> Resolver Configuration”, type the 2 primary ip address in Primary Resolver & Secondary Resolver respectly, and click “Continue”

Note: The Teritary Resolver is optional. The 2 ip addresses should be matching to the 2 ip addresses assigned in step 2.

4. Restart the server and its done! 🙂

Please leave a comment if u have trouble setting up, We’ll be happy to help you!
